Some wedding days are beautiful because of the details. Some wedding days are beautiful because of the people. Nicole & AJ's wedding day at Mustard Seed Wedding Venue in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee was beautiful because of both.

Surrounded by the Smoky Mountains, The Mustard Seed was everything they could have dreamed of: a serene mountain escape where their families & closest friends could all spend an entire weekend. Instead of feeling like it was just a Saturday afternoon wedding, it felt like an experience they all shared together- one filled with laughter, meaningful moments, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Why Mustard Seed Wedding Venue?
Nicole and AJ were on the hunt for the perfect wedding venue- and it wasn't just because of the mountain views. They wanted a place where everyone they loved could unplug, slow down, and spend an entire weekend together. And that's what they found in Mustard Seed Wedding Venue.
Cozy cabins in the Smoky Mountains? Check.
Mountain overlooks? Check.
An intimate feel? Check.
Every corner of the property seemed designed with togetherness in mind, from getting ready in the cabins to saying their vows surrounded by the mountains they fell in love with.

A Love Story Almost 10 Years In The Making
Nicole and AJ first met in 2017 through some mutual friends. Immediately, they loved going outside together: tubing, motorcycle rides, concerts, county fairs, just being out with each other- that was the best place to be!
Flash forward a few years and AJ pulled off one of the cutest proposals you'll ever see. He knew how much Nicole adored her retired K9 partner, Zico, so he set up what he thought was just a birthday photoshoot for her favorite dog of all time. Instead, he surprised her at a mountain overlook with one of her dearest companions by his side by getting down on one knee. Nicole wasn't expecting it. It could not have gone any better.

The Dog Who Shaped Her Life
If you spent even five minutes talking to Nicole, you would immediately understand: Zico isn't "just" a dog. He's family. Nicole met Zico when she was a rookie K9 handler. He helped shape her career- and helped shape her as a person. We went through years of service and life's biggest milestones together. Zico was there when Nicole met AJ. He was there when she bought her first house. He's been there through every chapter of Nicole's adulthood. Now that he's retired and aging, Zico is one of the loves of her life. And that's why the emotional portion of the wedding came before the ceremony.

The Gift That Had Everyone In Tears
While Nicole got ready with her bridesmaids in the cabins, her Maid of Honor, Mackenzie, presented her with a beautiful gift: a Book of Letters written by everyone who loves Nicole dearly. Then, one final letter. This one was written from Zico's point of view. Complete with his little paw print. Everyone immediately started tearing up. Seeing Nicole read the letter and fight back tears was one of those moments that makes documentary wedding photography so incredible. You can't pose for the love that was written all over her face. It was definitely one of my favorite parts of Nicole & AJ's wedding day.

When Mother Nature Decided to Intervene
As everyone was making their way to the ceremony site, it started pouring rain on the mountain. For approximately 20 minutes. Thankfully, there was a nearby gazebo where everyone could gather and wait out the downpour. What could have been a stressful situation ended up being something entirely different. Instead of everyone getting frustrated, they started laughing. Family members began joking around. Friends cheered everyone up. No complaints. Just togetherness.

And then, just as quickly as it started, the rain stopped. The mountains were blanketed in a light mist. A warm sunshine beam started to shine through the clouds. The light was beautiful. One of those magical Smoky Mountain moments that you just can't control. The light that followed allowed us to capture some of the most stunning portraits and family photos of the entire day. Mother nature decided to join us in making our images stunning. Sometimes the best wedding days aren't the ones that go perfectly. They're the ones where everyone decides to be joyful anyway.

A Wedding Ceremony Full Of Meaning
Nicole and AJ said their vows privately to each other before the ceremony so they could enjoy a few minutes alone before saying "I do" in front of their family and friends. One of my favorite parts of the ceremony was their traditional handfasting. Representing two lives being fastened together. It perfectly embodied everything about their wedding: thoughtful, personal, and meaningful.

Because It's The Smoky Mountains...
Just when we thought Nicole & AJ's wedding day surprises would end... Our videography crew went out to fly a drone. And then they stopped. A mama bear and her 4 cubs. Just a few yards from the entrance. Welcome to the Smoky Mountains. Luckily, everyone maintained a safe distance and let the bear family continue on their adventure, granting us another incredible story to tell from Nicole and AJ's wedding day. It does not happen every wedding that your day's plan includes "pause for bear crossing.
Thoughtful Details Everywhere
Nicole and AJ thought through every single detail of their wedding day. They chose a dusty blue and white color scheme accented with bright pink and yellow flowers. Nicole's mom handmade many of their floral arrangements, adding another personal element to their special day. They carefully selected their flat lay which included their invitation suite, their vow books, their rings, and probably their most meaningful item of all, their handfasting cord that they would soon use during their ceremony. Everything represented them. It was never too much of anything. Everything was just right.

A Wedding Day That Perfectly Represented the Couple
Nicole answered our wedding questionnaire and she said that what she was looking forward to most wasn't the decor or even the reception. She was thrilled about the experience that they would create. I could not have described Nicole & AJ's wedding day better after photographing it. It was not just about the wedding. It was about slowing down. Being present. Spending time with the people you love most. Finding joy in unexpected rain showers. Laughing while waiting under a gazebo with family and friends. Crying over a letter written by your beloved dog. Watching sunshine pour over the mountains after the storm.
And yes, even sharing the day with a family of bears.

If you're looking for an intimate mountain wedding surrounded by stunning scenery and incredible moments, Mustard Seed Wedding Venue is truly one of the hidden gems of the Smoky Mountains. Some wedding days cannot be planned. Nicole and AJ's was one of them- and that's exactly what made it so beautiful.
